For us, this recognition isn’t about checking boxes or chasing labels. It’s about living our core belief: that investing can create value beyond financial returns. Finance plays a critical role in shaping our world. And capital has the power to accelerate climate solutions, strengthen communities, and support businesses that treat people and planet with respect. But to do that, it needs to be intentional.
We pursued B Corp Certification to make that intention visible, measurable, and accountable.
SO WHAT’S A CERTIFIED B CORP?
B Lab says it perfectly: “Our most challenging problems can’t be solved by governments and nonprofits alone. For-profit businesses play a critical role in shaping our future. B Corps are for-profit companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.
“B Corps use the power of business to do more than seek profit. They use their profits and growth to positively impact their stakeholders – and the planet.”
The certification process, overseen by the nonprofit B Lab, is rigorous: We went through a comprehensive assessment that measured our performance in five areas:
- Governance: Do we embed our mission into how we run the company? Are we accountable and transparent?
- Workers: Do we support fair pay, benefits, flexibility, and opportunities for growth?
- Community: Are we committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and positive community impact?
- Environment: Are we reducing our footprint and building sustainability into our operations?
- Customers: Are we delivering products and services that create positive social and/or environmental outcomes/ Are we ethical, accessible and inclusive in how we serve clients?
You need at least 80 points to become certified. It’s not easy – and that’s exactly why it matters. We’re proud to report our score of 134.5:
WE’RE ALSO A PUBLIC BENEFIT LLC
Our mission and purpose have been locked since we formed Brighter as a Delaware Public Benefit LLC. Under Delaware law, a PBLLC is a for-profit entity that can formally consider environmental, social and stakeholder interests without risking fiduciary conflict. In our legal Certificate of Formation, we spelled out our commitment to purpose. Here’s ours:
Essentially, our PBLLC status is our legal framework and our B Certification rigorously validates our real-world impact.
